Maurits Kop also known as “The Ambient Society,” produces a steady flow of dreamy, chilled
out nu electronica music with orchestral elements. His musical education has included clarinet
and music theory taught by Johnny Tonnaer, Roger Creusen, Paula Mooren, Steven Walker
among others, and piano taught by Jean-Pierre Steyvers. His musical background is classical
(clarinet and piano), and he has performed with various orchestras throughout the years. He
has won awards for both his solo and orchestral performances. Maurits has worked with
conductors, Thijs Tonnaer, Jan Cober, Guido Swelsen and Dominique Schreurs. Since 2007,
Maurits has been giving private piano, clarinet and midi composing lessons.

In his twenties, Maurits began composing and producing electronica music via computer. Peer
review by SoundClick and Future State of Rhythm (FSOR) communities helped him grow as a
composer. He was awarded Electronica Artist of the Month in November 2006 by SoundClick,
one of the world’s biggest music sites, and his creations were also awarded Track Pick of the
Week, and The Most Popular Track This Month by SoundClick’s Electronica Forum. Maurits
often uses orchestral elements in his music, such as violin pads and oboe solos for rich,
intricate harmonic progressions that create a full, complex sound.

Maurits grew up in a small village in the south of The Netherlands, the city of Leudal. Besides
being a composer and musician, he is a lawyer who graduated from Maastricht University with
a master’s degree from the Faculty of Law. Both music and law have been practiced in his
family for generations.
